With the range of different consoles and hand-held consoles, it can be a bit overwhelming with the range that’s available. With this article were going to weigh up the pros and cons of the Lenovo Legion Go S. The Lenovo Go 2 S is the first console away from Asus which has the Windows 11 operating system, and will incorporate the Xbox interface so gamers can have the full-screen Xbox X experience. This will be available on the console in early 2026.
You can install the Xbox app on Windows for now and use your subscription on the console. I’ve used the Legion Go S for a week, and can say the console fits nicely in your hands than the previous model, with the hand grips more curved for a more comfortable feel. It has the usual Legion Go button layout with the added LED lights on the control sticks which are superior to the Nintendo Switch 2 because they use magnetic sensors of instead of physical contacts to read stick inputs this prevents wear and tear and eliminates stick drift. The two small left-hand select buttons have been moved from below the D-pad to above it. Theres also 2 left and right programable macro buttons underneath with left and right trigger selection switches.Legion Go 2 S Is heavier than the Steam deck OLED weighing in at 2.03lbs and is not as powerful as the Legion Go Z1 Extreme. The screen is not OLED on this model it has a IPS VRR 120hz 8.8-inch screen which surprisingly although it’s not an OLED screen it has a surprisingly nice clear screen with great colour saturation and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) which means re-sync can be used. The OLED screen is only available on the more expensive Legion Go Ryzen Z2 Extreme model. The sound on the Legion Go S is not great with 2 speakers below the controllers.
However this can be compensated for with a sound app from the Microsoft store called FX sound which can compensate for the tinny sound by adding more bass to it, or you can connect your headphones via Bluetooth. There are two USB 4 type B inputs above the screen which offers 40Gbps transfer rates and a SD card reader for additional memory. You can also use a USB 3 memory stick with a C-shape adaptor which will offer faster transfer rates than the micro SD cards. The starting price is £499 for the Z2 S and around £1300 for the Z2 Extreme 32Gb 1Tb SSD. Now for the geeky bit; So, what powers the Legion Go 2 S? Well, here’s some tech specifications:
| CPU | AMD Ryzen Z2 or Z2 Extreme APU with from 4 to 8 cores/16 threads. (depending on model) |
|---|---|
| Graphics | RDNA 3.5-based Radeon 890M |
| Display | 8-inch, 1920 x 1200, 120Hz IPS ARR display |
| RAM | from 16 to 32GB |
| Storage | 512GB to 1TB SSD |
| Battery | Increased capacity than its predecessor at 74Whr a 50% increase |
| SD Memory | Support for 2TB micro SD cards |
| Operating System | Windows 11 with the option to add Steam O/S |
The verdict on the Legion go is that its a great handheld console that is capable of handleing the most demanding games quite well. With the option to add aditional memory to it via USB or SD card. The Legion Go S offers some flexability when it comes to running memory demanding games. At around £500 it offers some great options for gaming such as the XBox app and the new handheld Steam O/S. The down side is that the speakers are a bit tinny and err a bit crap, this can be corrected with the FX sound app from Microsoft store and ajusting the Bass levels.
